LINQ 2013 - Innovations and Quality: The Future of Digital Resources

The European and International Conference LINQ 2013 is taking place on the 16th and 17th of May, 2013 in Rome, Italy.

The international Conference LINQ 2013 is taking place on May 16th and 17th, 2013 in Rome, Italy at the Headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
This year, LINQ 2013 and its motto "Innovations and Quality: The Future of Digital Resources" addresses and invites experts active in the field of Innovations and Quality in Lifelong Learning (LLL): potential points of access to this field include new learning methods and design, Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), quality standards and certification, human resources development, competences and skills, digital resources, learning materials, and online collaboration and communities. Interested researchers are thus welcome to submit their work on conference topics (in detail below) by March 4th 2013 (extended paper submission deadline).

Keynote Speakers of EDEN 2013 Annual Conference Revealed

The first list of keynote speakers for the 2013 EDEN Annual Conference unveiled right before the Holiday season includes Prof. Sugata Mitra, Dr. Bernard Luskin, Anna Kirah, Ana Carla Pereira, and a representative of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Prof. Sugata Mitra is Professor of Educational Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, UK. He is best known for his "Hole in the Wall" experiment, and widely cited in works on literacy and education. Prof. Mitra is a leading proponent of Minimally Invasive Education, a solution that uses the power of collaboration and the natural curiosity of children to catalyze learning. During his most known experiment, 'Hole in the Wall' conducted first in 1999,  a computer was placed in a kiosk created within a wall in a slum at Kalkaji, Delhi and children were allowed to use it freely. The experiment aimed at proving that children could be taught by computers very easily without any formal training. This experiment inspired Vikas Swarup, an Indian diplomat to write Q & A, the novel adapted into the multiple Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire. See his TED talk on the experiment here.

 
Dr. Bernard Luskin, President-Elect for the American Psychological Association (APA) Media Psychology Division is widely known for his major study 'Media Psychology and New Technology'. Dr Luskin was central to the launch of Jones International University, the first accredited fully online university in the USA and the Mind Extension University, a precursor for many of the online university programs of today, including what are now being called emerging MOOC strategies. Anne Kirah, is currently Senior Design and Innovation Anthropologist of Steria, Norway. She served previously as a design anthropologist for MSN leading field and laboratory research, national and international, intended to influence software and service designs to improve humans’ interaction with technology. She holds an advanced graduate degree in social and cultural anthropology, as well as undergraduate degrees in social anthropology, the sociology of education and developmental psychology. She also holds a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Washington.

 

Ana Carla Pereira, Head of Unit for Skills and Qualifications, Commission Directorate-General Education and Culture will talk about the developments with the European Union new generation education programmes.

 

Our Norwegian hosts invited a high level representative of the Norwegian Nobel Committee to speak.

 

The Nordic Voice
Distance education has been an important part of adult education in the Nordic countries for the last hundred years. Today, in Scandinavia, online education with advanced digital learning resources are widely accessible. A best practice presentation from all the Nordic countries will take place.

Call for Contributions

Underpinning the conference theme, “The Joy of Learning”, the EDEN 2013 Annual Conference will include paper presentations, interactive workshops often blended with webinars, on-the-spot poster sessions with visualised practices and project presentations in form of short demonstrations.

Contributions should relate to the conference themes. The Call is open until 5 February. Submissions will be double peer reviewed and accepted contributions published in the electronic Conference Proceedings with ISBN and their summary in the printed Book of Abstracts.

LINQ 2013: Call for Papers Published

The call for papers for the 2nd European Conference on "Learning Innovations and Quality" (LINQ 2013) has been released. LINQ 2013's motto is "Innovations and Quality: The Future of Digital Resources". All interested interested researchers are invited to submit their work by the paper submission deadline of February 4th, 2013.

The 2nd European Conference on "Learning Innovations and Quality" (LINQ) has published a call for papers for its upcoming conference in Rome on the 13th and 14th of May 2013. LINQ is the leading annual European Conference on learning innovations and learning quality: organized by the University of Duisburg-Essen, LINQ attracts participants throughout Europe and the successful LINQ 2012 in Brussels was also able to welcome experts from Asia, America and Africa.

 

This year, LINQ 2013 and its motto “Innovations and Quality: The Future of Digital Resources” addresses and invites experts active in the field of Innovations and Quality in Lifelong Learning (LLL): potential points of access to this field include new learning methods and design, Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), quality standards and certification, human resources development, competences and skills, digital resources, learning materials, and online collaboration and communities. Through these themes, LINQ 2013 will bring together an international audience of various academic and professional backgrounds, providing the foundation for a rewarding exchange of knowledge and experience. Interested researchers and organizations are thus welcome to submit their best work on the conference topics (in detail below) by the 4th of February 2013 (paper submission deadline).

Stracke, LINQ Conference Chair and international ISO Convener for learning quality from the University of Duisburg-Essen. “This year’s motto emphasizes the importance of digital repositories and their usage in lifelong learning and improving learning innovations and learning quality. The LINQ 2013 call for papers invites all experts and practitioners to contribute to LINQ’s dialogue through the submission of high-quality papers describing fully-developed results, on-going work or innovative concepts related to the following topics:

 

•      Innovations and future trends in Learning, Education and Training (LET)

•      Quality improvement and learning outcome orientation in LET

•      Harmonization of innovations and quality development in LET

•      Digital resources, online repositories and metadata for online objects

•      Web 2.0, Social Media and Online Communities for LET

•      Open access, open educational resources and user-generated content

•      Technology‐Enhanced Learning for schools, universities and lifelong learning

•      Learning quality in vocational education and training and HR

•      Implementation of learning innovations and quality improvements

•      Knowledge, innovation and ideas management in LET contexts

•      Standardisation of LET design, production and services

•      Quality management, standards, and certification in LET

•      Competence and skills development in lifelong learning

•      Quality and standardization of learning assessment and evaluation

 

Submissions of papers related to the conference (max eight pages) must be sent by February 4th, 2013, using the official LINQ template. All papers will be reviewed by the international scientific LINQ Programme Committee through double-blind peer review. Submitters will be informed of their acceptance by the 20th of March 2013. All accepted papers can be presented at the LINQ conference, will be published in the official proceedings of the European conference (with ISBN) and distributed to all conference participants as well as throughout Europe. Specific guidelines and requirements can be found on the conference website at www.learning-innovations.eu.

 

Attendance at the European conference "Learning Innovations and Quality" (LINQ 2013) is subject to a conference fee (early bird rate: 90 €) and requires registration through the LINQ website, as places are limited. The conference fee includes all provisions including a warm 3-course lunch, the coffee breaks, the conference bag, and the official conference proceedings. At least one author has to register for the publication of an accepted paper.

EDEN Announces Keynote Speakers for its 2013 Annual Conference 'The Joy of Learning' in Oslo

The European Distance and E-learning Network unveiled today its first list of keynote speakers for the 2013 Annual Conference to take place on 12-15 June 2013 at the University of Oslo, Norway. This year, Prof. Sugata Mitra, Dr. Bernard Luskin, Anna Kirah, Pierre Mairesse, Kirstin Clemet and a representative of the Norwegian Nobel Committee was invited to inspire the EDEN conference participants.

Underpinning the conference theme, “The Joy of Learning”, the EDEN 2013 Annual Conference includes three days of keynote speeches, paper presentations introducing high quality scientific research and applied solutions, hands-on interactive workshops often blended with webinars, short on-the-spot poster sessions with visualised practices and project presentations. The Joy of Learning - Call for Papers

The European Distance and E-learning Network – EDEN announces its next annual conference to take place on 12-15 June 2013 in Oslo, Norway at the premises of The University of Oslo. The conference is organised in collaboration with NADE – Norwegian Association for Distance and Flexible Education. The EDEN 2013 Conference will discover and present the latest best practice in e-learning, open, distance and flexible learning, share progressive concepts, inventive solutions, and promote joint-thinking and collaboration. The Conference launched its Call for Contributions to academic staff, researchers, professionals and practitioners of the field. This year’s special strand focuses on mapping new technologies in school level education and training. The deadline for paper submissions is 5 February 2013, while registrations open mid-February.

The Conference

Academics, researchers, practitioners gather every year at the EDEN Annual conferences to discuss the latest developments of e-learning, open and distance education. These have been increasingly important fields of intellectual excitement and innovative development. The challenges posed by the new technologies are permanent, and students constantly keep teachers under pressure to develop. In Europe, despite economic and social pressures, there is a collective drive towards realising the creative potential. Learning is becoming more and more individualized and self-managed. Personalization helps foster engagement and supports awareness and motivation. The 2013 EDEN Annual Conference thus explores themes such as “Engaging and challenging learners” „Enhanced learning experience by participation and collaboration” or „Joy, Fun and ICTs”.

 

Call for Papers

The Call for Contribution launched recently invites full paper proposals for presentations in parallel sessions, poster submissions for short poster sessions as well as interactive, often with webinar combined workshops and short demonstrations that relate to the conference themes. The Conference Committee double peer reviews submissions and upon acceptance, paper submissions are published in the electronic Conference Proceedings and Book of Abstracts. The Best Research Paper title is awarded after the selection process takes place in collaboration with the Ulrich Bernath Foundation for Research in Open and
Distance Learning, with the support of a distinguished Jury. All full papers accepted for the conference quality automatically for the selection. The Award Ceremony takes place at the Conference Dinner.

The conference will be intensively supported and accompanied by social networking, sharing, online and virtual presence and involvement possibilities.

CSI’s academic research conference in Scottsdale offers three tracks: Education, Business and Behavioral Sciences:  The Education Track provides a colloquium to share research that emphasizes inquiry, evidence-based practice, best practice and promising methods. Academic and action research on all education issues is welcome.  The Business Track provides an assembly for business educators, professionals and practitioners to investigate academic and action research, discovery and evidence-based practice. Areas of study may include business, economics, management, accounting, law, ethics, management information systems, finance, foreign trade, international politics, instructional strategies, curriculum design and related subjects.  The Behavioral Sciences Track provides a forum to explore research that perpetuates thought leadership and represents critical enrichment in the areas of addiction, adolescence and youth, adult development, psychology (applied, clinical, developmental, environmental, industrial/organizational, school), social work (clinical, school), human development, counseling and therapy, substance use/abuse, and related fields.

Online Educa Berlin - Programme Premieres VIDEO EDUCA

The challenge of “video as the new language of learning” will be tackled head-on at this year’s ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN (OEB), the largest global e-learning conference for the corporate, education and public service sectors, which takes place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Berlin from 28th to 30th November.

“Video is a powerful and increasingly prevalent learning tool,” says international media executive Adam Salkeld, who is curating VIDEO EDUCA. “Generation Z’s learners are typically highly sophisticated consumers of video as well as native video makers. Educators need to respond to this major shift in the way media content is used and perceived by current generations to ensure effectiveness.” 

 

OEB 2012’s programme is now online and features a series of expert-led video sessions grouped under the name VIDEO EDUCA. The VIDEO EDUCA sessions will focus on all aspects of using video in learning, ranging from the practical production process to learning practitioners’ experiences. In the opening plenary session, the award-winning documentary maker Michael Grigsby will deliver a keynote speech on the role of video in education. As well as making nearly 30 acclaimed films, Grigsby co-founded the Abingdon Film Unit, which works with secondary school pupils to create short documentaries and animated films.

 

Participants will have the unique opportunity to have their own videos critiqued by industry experts such as Steve Anderson, Executive Producer of BBC’s Question Time, in the pre-conference Video Masterclass. Taking place on Wednesday 28th November, the Video Masterclass will provide participants with a detailed overview of using video to communicate learning, as well as insider knowledge of the production process. From script to screen, the Masterclass will cover the key areas of filmmaking and ensure that all participants leave with the tools and techniques to make video a successful component of learning resources, whatever the budget.

 

Additional expert speakers and session leaders include Rebekah Tolley, an award-winning film-maker and educator who has produced educational resources for the United Nations, the BBC and Channel 4; and Martin Addison, CEO of Video Arts, the company founded by John Cleese. Video Arts remains one of the world’s leading video training companies and has changed the face of corporate training across the globe.
