What are the key lessons of ICT4D partnerships for poverty reduction? Systematic Review Report

12 January 2012

This publication by Geldof, M., Grimshaw, D. J., Kleine, D. and Unwin, T. provides a systematic review of the evidence concerning the contribution of partnerships in the field of ICTs for Development, and how they influence poverty reduction (funded by DFID).  Many of the examples drawn upon are in the field of education.  The report's conclusions highlight the problems that many partnerships face, and emphasises the need for more open and honest reporting of partnership success. The main aim of this report is to summarise the evidence available on the effects of ICT4D partnerships on poverty reduction. The research question: “What are the key lessons of ICT4D partnerships for poverty reduction?” guided the review. A further aim of the study was to use systematic and reproducible methods of investigation of the published literature to enable a judgement to be made about the quality as well as the content of the evidence available.

Its outcomes are a set of educational programs in the form of interactive digital games and methodological aids. The project introduces a platform where most materials are uploaded and organized as game scenarios. It succeeds in linking Environmental Education (EE), a transversal theme in the Czech Primary School system, with ICT use.
