Call for interest - an OER for training teacher trainers
The International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) invites expressions of interest for producing courseware in the form of an open educational resource for training teacher trainers in high quality open, distance and online learning. The target group for this call is an institution or consortium of actors/ institutions and the initial focus of the project is Africa.
Open, distance and online learning is rapidly expanding in universities and colleges in Africa and Asia, but faculty training has not caught up with the speed of development. According to the African Union Commission, the number of new teachers required in Africa by the year 2015 is estimated to be 3.6 million.
Online training using OERs will facilitate mass training of teacher trainers, which again will facilitate trained teachers in filling the huge gap in demand for educators in Africa. By using OERs, courseware can be adapted to different cultures and languages.
The OER/ courseware to receive an ICDE grant should focus on the needs of teacher trainers to deliver high quality faculty training in open and distance/ online learning. The first regional area of priority should be Africa. A regional focus on Asia will be considered when the project has delivered.
The expressions of interest must be submitted to the ICDE Secretariat, icde@icde.org by Friday 31 May 2013. ICDE will invite a smaller selection of applicants to deliver a bid in the form of a project proposal. One successful bidder will be invited to enter into a contract with ICDE. The value of the grant is USD 8,500.
OPEN DISCOVERY SPACE: Competence-Based Training for School Teachers
The aim of the course is to support the development of European schools’ digital culture and teachers’ digital skills, so that they are able to understand the uses and applications of digital resources in school practice, and subsequently to benefit from digital content and technology solutions covering a wide range of areas: Science, Mathematics, ICT, Social Studies, Arts and Language Studies.
Thus, teachers will not only be familiarized with a unique collection of open digital educational resources, but they will also be trained to link them with innovative pedadogical practices, such as using real world learning activities, implementing resource based and project-based approaches.
Throughout the course teachers will be handled in three different modes: a) as learners participating in real world learning activities; b) as teachers implementing resource based problem-solving educational projects and collaborative strategies in their classes; and c) as researchers collecting, examining and interpreting data about their practice and their students’ learning.
Methodological portal
Methodological portal emerged in the Czech Republic as the main methodological support for teachers and to support the implementation of general education programs in schools. Its purpose is to create an environment in which teachers will be able to inspire and inform each other about their experiences.

We seek empirical investigations, literary reviews or interviews within the range of research in language and literature teaching methods. We will accept submissions in Catalan, Spanish, French and English. Submissions to the journal are reviewed by the editorial board and advisory board, using a critical process of blind peer review.

Annual competition to reward excellence and creativity in media in education.
Aim of the MEDEA Awards
The aim of the MEDEA Awards is to encourage innovation and good practice in the use of media (audio, video, graphics and animation) in education. The awards also recognise and promote excellence in the production and pedagogical design of media-rich learning resources.
In recent years there has been remarkable interest in the creation and use of digital video and audio in education, boosted by the increasing impact of multimedia and video based websites and applications on the internet and mobile devices. The pedagogical vision is clear: it is only when video and audio are routine components of education and online learning, that we will have an educational environment that reflects the media-rich world in which our learners now live.
Participation Guidelines
Before submitting a multimedia project or production, we strongly recommend that you read the Judging Criteria to understand what the judges are specifically looking for and the criteria they will use when judging your submission, as well as the Terms & Conditions of submission, where you will find the rules for participation in the MEDEA Awards. Read also the important Copyright Information page.
Entries need to be submitted via the online submission form and sent to arrive at the MEDEA Secretariat via post, e-mail or fax before the closing date: 17 September 2012 (midnight). All finalists will be notified in the beginning of November and will be invited to take part in the awards ceremony taking place during the Media & Learning Conference 2012, where the final winners will be announced.

This award honours the best entry submitted by teachers, students, learners, parents, professors, individual or organisational representatives in primary education, secondary education, higher education, adult education, vocational education and/or training. - The MEDEA Award for Professionally Produced Educational Media 2012
This award will be awarded to the best professional educational media produced by a professional company or semi-professional production unit such as a broadcaster, professional multimedia producer or publisher, professional web design company, audiovisual or media department in larger institutions or organisations such as universities, government departments, companies, multinational institutions and organisations, etc. - The Special Prize for European Collaboration in the creation of Educational Media 2012
This prize recognises excellent educational media productions and projects that come about as a result of European cross-border collaboration and recognises the impact such collaboration can have in increasing understanding and enhancing the European dimension. - The Special Prize for Educational Media Encouraging Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012
This prize will be dedicated to an entry or production that clearly uses (multi)media to encourage active ageing and solidarity between generations. All educational media productions, no matter in what format, be it website, video, game or interactive presentation, that illustrate, document or promote the active ageing and solidarity between generations. - The Special MEDEA Jury 2012 Prize
The judges may, at their discretion, present a special award to an approach or production in recognition of exceptional innovation in pedagogic or technical design.
2011 Global Education Conference, online and free
The second annual Global Education Conference, a week-long event bringing together educators and innovators from around the world, will be held Monday, November 14 through Friday, November 18, 2011. The entire conference will be broadcast online for free using the Blackboard Collaborate platform (formerly known as Elluminate/Wimba).
The Global Education Conference is a collaborative and world-wide community effort organized by the Global Education Collaborative, Classroom 2.0, and Web 2.0 Labs, and is aimed at increasing opportunities for globally-connecting education activities and initiatives. Last year’s conference featured 387 sessions and 60 keynote addresses from 62 countries with over 15,000 participant logins. Sessions will be held in multiple time zones and multiple languages over the five days, and all of last years sessions are currently archived as a standing educational resource at http://globaledcon.weebly.com/recordings.html.
The Call for Proposals for the 2011 event is now open at http://globaleducation.ning.com/page/call-for-proposals. Presenters can submit proposals for general sessions focused on one of four possible tracks: Teacher Track; Student Track; Curricular Track; and Policy and Leadership Track. Proposals should focus on ideas, projects, and initiatives that promote global understanding and collaboration. The deadline for submissions is October 15 and participants will be notified of acceptance by October 30. Keynote presentations are by invitation only.
Session proposals are to be non-commercial. Interest in commercial sponsorship or presentations should be directed to Steve Hargadon at steve@hargadon.com.
CITE 2011 - 12th International Conference on Theroy of Education
The International Conference CITE 2011 is a forum coordinated by the Inter-university Seminar of Theory of Education (SITE), and which this year is organized by the University of Barcelona. The aim is to promote reflection and scientific debate on the values of autonomy and responsibility in the education of citizens and the dissemination of experience and good teaching practices related to these values.
In order to encourage participation without limitation imposed by presential conferences, there is also the option to participate by internet, where for 20 days, researches from arround the world will be able to present their work, network and debate freely on a platform which will be able 24 hours a day.
