I share Fred's view that sts' may feel freer to communicate with their virtual teacher.
From what I've read and seen, I also believe that young people are naive enough to reveal (too much) of their personal information (in their Facebook profiles, for example) and either forget to block the access or simply are not aware of the possible dangers of disclosing true data. And this happens because of the temptation of getting access to an endless range of communication partners.
