Perceptions of ICT Use in Remote Education

There are two main strands of activity: firstly to test how e-learning can facilitate the development of higher order learning in a cost and pedagogically effective manner; secondly to establish the perceptions of learners of e-learning through analysis of the relationship between access to technology, technological expertise and attitudes to the use of technology in educational practice.

The first year of the project piloted an innovative approach to assessment of higher order learning in an online undergraduate developmental psychology degree course; the second year of the project will extend this exploration further through the evaluation of three pedagogical scenarios: online debates, peer tutoring and collaborative group project.
The lead partner is Oscail – the National Distance Education Centre in Ireland and the other partners are the Danish Association of Open Universities/University of Aarhus and Queens University Belfast. Among the outputs will be a series of reports on assessment of higher order learning in an elearning environment, a report on the digital divide, workshops and a number of conference presentations and posters.
