Lecturer and researcher, Coordinator of Erasmus Mundus MA ??Digital Library Learning? (DILL)

Sirje Virkus is a researcher and lecturer in information studies, currently working for the Institute of Information Studies of the Tallinn University (TU). She has been the head of the department and vice dean of the faculty and under her leadership the Institute of Information Studies has developed several innovative curricula and courses.

She is a co-ordinator of the Erasmus Mundus joint Master programme “Digital Library Learning” (DILL) at Tallinn University. She has an extensive experience working with educational innovation and research in the higher education sector in Estonia.

She has actively been taking part more than 20 national and international projects, aiming at methodological research, course development and networking. Her research interests are focused on the development of information-related competencies in higher open and distance learning. She is the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU) Board member and the member of the EADTU Executive Committee.

She is a member of many journal editorial boards, including “Information Research”, “Education for Information”, “Nordic Journal of Information Literacy in Higher Education”, “Library Review” and of the peer-reviewed information science book series “Knowledge and Information: Studies in Information Science”.

In addition to this, she is a reviewer in many research journals and monographs (e.g., “Journal of Documentation”, “Program: Electronic Library and Information Systems”), and is responsible for organising several leading scientific events and conferences.
