eLearning at a glance
The eLearning Programme (2004-2006), built on both the eLearning Action Plan and the eLearning Initiative (2001-2003), has been one of the European programmes in the field of ICT for education and training. It promoted the inclusion of ICT in all learning systems and environments (formal, non-formal, informal – school, higher and adult education, and vocational training).
Within this framework, the Programme encouraged:
- Promotion of digital literacy
- Strengthening of virtual campuses
- Improvement of tools and methodologies related to e-learning
- E-cooperation among organisations and practitioners in the educational and training systems
The programme was divided in 4 key areas with specific objectives:
- Digital Literacy
- Virtual Campuses
- Transversal Actions
- E-Twinning
Since the eLearning programme, the use of information and communication technologies has been mainstreamed in education and is now addressed in all European lifelong learning initiatives. However, a specific action with evolved priorities is still needed. The Key Activity 3 - Information and Communication Technologies (ICT - KA 3) - under the Transversal Programme of the Lifelong learning Programme 2007-2013 supports the use and development of ICT based learning opportunities from early childhood to adult life. More on Key Activity 3 - ICT.
The eLearning programme funded projects under these thematic categories:
- Digital literacy
- Virtual campuses
- Transversal actions
- Media literacy
- Peer Review projects
- Observatories projects
- Networks of collaboration
- Quality
