Transferring Knowledge in a Globalised World - EUCEN conference 2013

EUCEN's 45th Conference organised by the University of Geneva (CH) will examine the responsibility of ULLL in the knowledge society. What are the models of the future for ULLL in a globalised World?  Two main aspects will be explored:
 
Internationalising universities: Between competition, collaboration and cooperation – the policy of internationalisation for universities
The transfer of knowledge by ICT

Today, like the economy in general, knowledge too is globalised. Universities position their knowledge in a world-wide context. New ways of delivering learning are essential. E-learning and on-line courses open up new possibilities. The location of learning is being displaced. It is migrating from the classroom to an iPhone, an iPad... Internationalisation has become one of the major challenges for universities.
 
TRANSFERRING KNOWLEDGE IN A GLOBALISED WORLD: A ULLL RESPONSIBILITY
The conference will examine the responsibility of ULLL in the knowledge society. What are the models of the future for ULLL in a globalised world? Two aspects will be explored:
 
 
Internationalising universities: between cooperation, collaboration and competition
Universities are opening campuses in other countries. They are creating new partnerships. They evaluate programmes offered by other providers. They respond to requests from emerging countries for expertise and teaching. They obtain accreditation and in order to affirm their reputation they aim for excellence in the rankings. They situate themselves between cooperation, collaboration and competition.
 
To what end? What strategies do they use? What are the real advantages and the potential risks in such policies?
How does this process of internationalisation fit with the mission of teaching and research?
 
The transfer of knowledge using ICT
To support this internationalisation, universities are developing distance-learning courses, investing in mass teaching systems and diversifying their target groups. They are disseminating their knowledge throughout the world and integrating new tools and new media technologies.
In the future, will courses be designed only for distance learning? How will the quality of the teaching and learning be assured? Do universities know how to integrate these social and technological changes into their policy and practice?
 
The 45th EUCEN conference will conduct a debate on the University of Tomorrow, engaging with different points of view and numerous case studies.

Internet Science Summer School 2012

We are currently inviting applications from early career researchers for the first Network of Excellence Internet Science Summer School to be held in Oxford from 12-18 August 2012. 

 

 

The Network of Excellence Internet Science is currently inviting applications from early career researchers for the first Summer School to be held in Oxford from 12-18 August 2012. The theme of the summer school is "Internet Privacy and Identity, Trust and Reputation Mechanisms," with sub-themes addressing online identity and ACTA/SOPA/CISPA.

Academic Programme

The principal aim of the programme is to promote interdisciplinary discussion of issues related to Internet Science among early career researchers (advanced PhD students and those in the first four years of their research career) engaged in research related to Internet privacy and identity, trust and reputation mechanisms. Daily activities will be structured around morning lectures and afternoon discussions aimed at developing participants’ thinking on a range of issues central to the Internet. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their research with faculty and other early career researchers. A range of social events will provide informal opportunities for continued discussions and networking among participants.

The summer school will draw upon the strengths of the Network of Excellence in Internet Science (described below) and will involve participation of many of its members, in addition to colleagues from partner institutions.

Benefits of participation

Participants will meet and work with a diverse group of their peers, a considerable benefit for researchers who may not have large academic peer groups in their own departments. Additionally, participants will:

  • Join an international collaboration experience
  • Exchange institutional research projects, methods, and interdisciplinary perspectives.
  • Contribute to ongoing discussions of research and issues related to Internet Science
  • Attend lectures from renowned experts and participate in multi-disciplinary discussions
  • Engage in academic and professional networking

Research areas

We welcome applications from early career researchers in any discipline whose work in the field of Internet research engages with the theme of the summer school and reflects the disciplinary base of the Network of Excellence in Internet Science, as described below.

About the Network of Excellence in Internet Science

The Network of Excellence in Internet Science aims to develop an integrated and interdisciplinary scientific understanding of Internet networks and their co-evolution with society. The network is composed of over thirty research institutions across Europe from a variety of disciplines including physics, sociology, game theory, economics, political sciences, network engineering, computation, complexity, networking, security, mathematics, humanities, and law, as well as other relevant social and life sciences. Its main objective is to enable an open and productive dialogue between all disciplines that study Internet systems from any technological or humanistic perspective, and which in turn are being transformed by continuous advances in Internet functionality.

Fees and activities

Delegate fees are £900 and this includes 7 nights’ en suite accommodation at Queen’s College, daily breakfast, lunch (including one BBQ) and refreshments, and two evening college dinners. Summer school participants will have an opportunity to take part in Oxford social activities.

Applications must be submitted by 5p.m. (GMT) on Friday, June 1st. We will notify successful applicants by Friday, June 15.

Gebruik van patronen om TE-leerscenario’s te ontwerpen

Onderzoek naar ontwerpen voor leren is een gebied dat veel inspanningen binnen het kader van TE-omgevingen heeft gebundeld. Dit scenario heeft de noodzaak aangetoond om leerscenario’s vanuit een formeler gezichtspunt voor te stellen.

Dit artikel behandelt enkele voorstellingsmechanismen die het systematische ontwerp van leerproblemen in een technologische omgeving mogelijk maken en stelt een aanpak voor die gebruik maakt van patroonnotaties om verschillende leercontexten beter te kunnen begrijpen en voor te bereiden.

 

Ook wordt een casusstudie beschreven om de toepassing van deze scenario’s in een specifieke TE-omgeving voor het onderwijs in de rekenvakken te laten zien. Deze toepassing is gebaseerd op het gebruik van e-ink technologieën en laat zien hoe door middel van het gebruik van patronen tussen pedagogische en technische kwesties kan worden bemiddeld.
