Professor Maria Lucia Giovannini graduated from the University of Bologna in 1969 with a degree in Educational Science (cum laude). In 1973, at the University of Turin she completed (cum laude) her diploma of specialisation in psychopedagogy. She is a full professor within the field of Experimental Pedagogy at the Bologna University Faculty of Educational Sciences.
Maria Lucia Giovannini teaches Assessment and evaluation in ICT context, Theory and Methods of Educational Research, Assessment for/of learning and certification of competences. Design and assessment of training actions. She has held many institutional offices amongst which: department/committee member, director of the Interdepartmental Centre of Education Research (CIRE), member of the Advisory Committee for specialisation schools for the initial training of teachers at secondary school level at Bologna University. Currently she is director of Master programme in Science of Lifelong Educational Processes and delegate for guidance within the Faculty of Educational Sciences.
Her main research fields are:
- assessment problems and certification within the education and training fields.
- problems related to selection and students drop out within continuous education.
- role of teachers and problems related to their training.
- use of computer information and communication technology (ICT) within teaching and learning processes.
