Minna Lakkala

I have a background in general psychology, computer science and sociology. From the beginning of 80s I have worked as an in-service teacher trainer in the areas of computer aided instruction and advances of educational practices with modern technology, and as a consultant of various work organizations in the areas of ICT-training and changes of learning and working practices with technology. Part of this work has been conducted in a Finnish company (Heuristica Oy) that I share with a close collaborator. Currently I work part time as a project researcher at the Technology in Education Research Group (TEdu), University of Helsinki. I made my Ph.D. about teachers’ practices in scaffolding and organizing computer-supported collaborative inquiry. I have participated in various national and international research and development projects concerning school development, students’ and teachers’ ICT skills, digital learning materials, teachers' practices in computer-supported learning, etc. My main research interest is teachers' pedagogical practices in technology-enhanced collaborative knowledge creation.

Favourite e-learning resources

The website of Fostering ICT Usages in pedagogical Practices project (FICTUP), http://www.fictup-project.eu/

The project aimed at creating innovative training materials describing concrete pedagogical activities using ICT, experimenting a close tutoring process among expert and novice teachers, and providing training institutions with some recommendations based on the experimentations.

See especially the training materials from two Finnish pedagogical cases:

  1. Exploring growth factors - Applying inquiry learning and virtual forums, http://www.fictup-project.eu/index.php/Exploring_growth_factors._Applying_inquiry_learning_and_virtual_forums
  2. School children’s Web journal - Publishing with Magazine Factory tool, http://www.fictup-project.eu/index.php/School_children%E2%80%99s_Web_journal._Publishing_with_Magazine_Factory_tool

The website of Knowledge Practices Laboratory project (KP-Lab), http://www.kp-lab.org

KP-Lab was an EU-funded integrated project (2006-2011) that focused on creating a learning system (on Open Source basis) aimed at facilitating innovative practices of sharing, creating and working with knowledge in education and workplaces.
