Sibel Erduran is Professor of Science Education at University of Bristol, United Kingdom. She serves as the International Coordinator of NARST Executive Board and the Section Editor of Science Education journal as well as the Editorial Board member of the International Journal of Science Education. She received her BS in biochemistry, MSc in food chemistry and PhD in science education and philosophy in the USA at Northwestern, Cornell and Vanderbilt Universities. She worked as a researcher at University of Pittsburgh and King's College, University of London, and taught high school chemistry and middle-school science in northern Cyprus. She has made over 140 invited lectures and conference presentations around the world and authored close to 120 publications. Her research interests include the applications of philosophy of science in science education, discourse and argumentation, and scientific inquiry and reasoning. Her work draws from both theoretical perspectives on the nature of science as well as classroom-based research in science classrooms. She has received funding from a range of agencies including the European Union, Gatsby, Nuffield and Spencer Foundations, and the Training and Development Agency for Schools. At Bristol, she teaches MSc and PhD level courses and supervises research students and postdoctoral fellows.
